ひとり遊び / Playing Alone

Memory Lab One of my favorite releases of 2019. The emotional track “Hammer” stands out in Yosuke’s debut album in which he manages to create high tensions and diverse atmospheres on all nine tracks only through the use of percussions. He also delivers a stunning beatbox performance on “Voice” over more than 5 minutes.

The last track on the album “Origin” develops an oppressive atmosphere through grumbling kicks and waves hitting the shore. The final 80 seconds are absolutely hard-hitting and mind-blowing and make this album the most intense release on Musilogue thus far.

Favorite track: 起源 / Origin.

about

Japanese percussionist, Yosuke Watanabe is a unique and inventive player. Using tambourines as the main, his instruments consists of traditional hammered dulcimer to modern electric drums and vocal percussion. His solo album “Playing Alone” is full of detailed elements, intriguing listener to play repeatedly to find new discoveries every time.
